A common rule of thumb when designing your home is: design one room at a time, and design it around one particular object. This object may be a piece of furniture, an antique of some sort, a painting, or a photograph. Today we are going to discuss five different design ideas based around popular camera effects.
The Classic Black and White
You can never go wrong with the classics, and black and white photography can really help to express the style you’re going for. The best thing about this is that you can keep everything around it very neutral, or you can help the room to pop with more colorful accents.
The Aged Effect
We have all seen our parents’ old candid polaroids from their wedding day, or a family get together. There is something very welcoming about this style because it is nostalgic. A great way to bring this together is using fabrics with dated prints from the 60′s or 70′s but in more modern blues and beiges. Also, furniture with clean lines accented with chunky, detailed antiques.
The Photo Booth
Photo booth photography has a very artistic appeal, and since they’re usually sepia or black and white you can be flexible with colors. The strips themselves should be placed as if it was a total accident: laying ever so thoughtlessly on the coffee table or desk, or quickly pinned to a framed bulletin board. This style says a lot about the the inhabiter, but without being obvious.
The Overexposed
This is classic with an edge, it’s where chic becomes high fashion. This is a great way to tone down bright colors and big prints without losing sight of your obvious goal – to be fabulous. The best part is that it’s not as expensive as you may think, the trick is in how it’s executed, and not so much in what you’re using to create this image.
The Vibrant
This is often popular with a younger decorator, because it’s fun, unpredictable, and full of life. This is the style of someone who is willing to take the risk and put anything and everything together as long as it pops, and makes a statement. They want to hear the comments when someone walks through the door. With this design, the accents are usually white or black with the stronger colors being the real life of the party.
